The Competition

The competition is open to anyone living in the United Kingdom between 18-30 years old. No one business should cost more than £5000 in initial set up costs. There will be five winners announced in November 2010 in five categories:

1. Services
2. Manufacturing
3. IT
4. Media and arts
5. Retail

The prizes will be:

  • Set up costs, including help approaching investors or direct funding from Robin Bennett.
  • Professional planning to get the company off the ground on the right footing from the start.
  • One year's mentoring from Robin Bennett, hands-on support whenever required and access to business networking.
  • National and regional PR for the start-up business.
  • Substantial marketing on the site www.startupsmart.co.uk

Initial Submissions
Initial submissions can be emailed or sent as a word file attachment or even as a video file! As a minimum, the applicant is required to set out their business idea in not more than 250 words. We would also like to know a bit about you and roughly how much you think the company would cost to set up and run in its first year (not more than £5000).

The author and publishers reserve the right to use all applicants' entries for purposes of information or marketing.

Competition entry

The competition is open from 1 June 2010 and last date for entry is 31 October 2010.

Shortlist

A shortlist will be published on 5 November and those on the shortlist will be asked to provide more detailed information about their background and business idea.

Winners

Five winners will be announced at the end of November 2010.
